The Creation of Building A Lasting Connection® Program and System

The Building A Lasting Connection® couples workshop was designed by two experienced and passionate EFT devotees; Dr. Rebecca Jorgensen, EFT Supervisor and Trainer and Dr. Debi Gilmore, EFT Supervisor.

Building A Lasting Connection® is different from other couples workshops because we focus on prevention, working with newly developing relationships, engaged couples and newlyweds. Rather than targeting distressed couples; our program is prevention-oriented. This all started with premarital program research and the discovery that attachment and emotion processing is not foundational within premarital and newlywed programs. Our program (including workshops and materials) is designed to build on strengths, prevent relational conflict and utilize the power of attachment to lay a foundation for relationship improvement and deepening the connection bond across the lifespan.

Building A Lasting Connection® facilitates the education couples need to be able to process emotion together through our Connection System®—this revolutionary experiential tool supports couples as they seek to build a structured, safe, transparent, and empathy-filled relationship. We use our five-level “Relationship Pyramid” as a guide for the workshop, with each element of the relationship building upon the next.

We hope you will explore our site and let us know if you have any questions. If you’re devoted to improving family relationships, especially starting with the couple bond and early commitment, we hope you will be part of our movement to strengthen loving relationships.

Dr. Debi Gilmore

Dr. Gilmore received her doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy with a special focus on clinical skills, clinical supervision, business leadership, and business development. She received her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and earned her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University of Psychology. Dr. Gilmore is a nationally approve supervisor with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and a certified supervisor of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) through the International Centre of Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).

For her doctoral dissertation, Dr. Gilmore developed a premarital education program base on the principles of attachment theory, initially titled “A premarital education program: Creating and preserving a secure foundation of attachment in newly developing relationships.” Dr. Gilmore’s program, which was notably based on attachment theory, caught the attention of Dr. Rebecca Jorgensen, a prominent EFT Supervisor and Trainer, who began to work with Dr. Gilmore to develop unique and experential features within her dissertation project. This collaboration became the foundation of making Building A Lasting Connection® the groundbreaking workshop that it is today. One of the most unique elements of this program is the innovative Connection System® that structures and guides couple communication and strengthens bonding the learning process through experiential learning theory.

Dr. Rebecca Jorgensen

Dr. Jorgensen received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a special focus on clinical skills, educational psychology, leadership and program development. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and earned her master’s degree in Clinical Child and Youth Work from Western Oregon University. Emotionally Focused Therapy brought a passion and vision to Dr. Jorgensen to spread the importance of attachment, the effectiveness of connection, and the development of secure, lasting bonds. She co-founded the San Diego Center for EFT and the Training and Research Institute for Emotionally Focused Therapy Alliant. She offers online seminars, internet based consultation and frequent webinars, as well as in person training workshops for therapists and couples around the globe. She has two best selling training videos, Emotionally Focused Therapy: A Complete Treatment and Emotionally Focused Therapy: Step by Step.

Dr. Jorgensen worked closely with Dr. Gilmore as her dissertation advisor in the development of a premarital education program and what is now the Lasting Connection System® to incorporate the latest research on attachment theory, emotional connection and bonding drawing on her decades of supervising therapists and consulting with agencies internationally to improve couple therapy and provide effective, experientially based therapy and workshops.

Together they launched the Building A Lasting Connection® program, that includes additional tools and resources along with premarital/newlywed workshops, and are so pleased to be a team promoting the development of secure attachment.
